This trip to Greece, from May 15 to July 4, commenced with visits to Mykonos and Santorini with a daughter and granddaughter, and continued with a month in Sparta. My original goal–to work on village history projects for Theologos and Xirokampi–was thwarted by a new policy instituted by the Sparta Archives. Under the auspices of the European privacy law known as GDPR and instructions from the Central Office of the General State Archives of Greece, the Archives has changed its policy to restrict open access to records. Since I could not work at the Archive office, I had to go to Plan B which was to review village history books at the Sparta Library. I spent time with family and friends, visited villages, and enjoyed day trips to new areas.
